SLIDIN': When Fox set its fall schedule last May, Sliders - about four people who "slide" through alternate universes - was out. Fans launched an Internet campaign, and within weeks Fox ordered 13 episodes for midseason. Friday at 8 p.m. ET/PT, Sliders returns in a time slot that has killed other would-be X-Files companions like VR. 5, M.A. N.T.I.S. and The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr. But executive producer Tracy Torme (son of singing great Mel Torme) thinks he has a leg up on the others, thanks to the Internet:

"We've established a following. When you have a show that people really like and spend time talking about it after it airs, that usually translates to more than cult status."
